This Weeks 5 Frugal Things on a Friday

Hello Dear Reader,

This weeks 5 frugal things is a bit of tongue in cheek, so please don't take offence if you do or don't do any of these things, I am just being silly. That's what a week of living on the beach will do to you.

1. Resisted the urge to go to the club for dinner and cooked at home every night

Bacon and Egg Toasties with Chopped Salad on the side

2. Didn't have a take away tea or coffee all week

We bought tea leaves and ground coffee plus plungers for both with us from home

3. Line dried the washing

I rinse out my 50 plus sun protection shirt every night and by the morning it's ready to go again

4. Packed morning tea, lunch and tea and water to have while we were out everyday

We have been enjoying tuna and chopped salad wraps everyday for lunch and a hot cross bun and muesli bars as snacks, plus water and tea for me, oh and of course I pack my piece of dark chocolate to have with the peppermint tea

5. Used up the food we had in the house
When camping, we keep the food side of things pretty basic but always tasty, I made a big Chopped Salad and it has indeed lasted all week. I also made this rissole mix which was enough for dinner and lunch on wraps with salad. If there is anything left over from dinner I bring it along for lunch the next day.

I put the Chopped Salad into a clip lock container lined with a clean linen tea towel, it has kept as fresh as a daisy all week long

So, there you go this weeks cheeky 5 frugal things, I would love to know how you have saved money this week. To comment simply click on the speech bubble at the end of this post.

Have a fantastic Friday

  1. Love the photos of the beach. We have also been on holiday for a few days by the beach. We had snow, sleet, rain and repeat!Managed a couple of walks but it was very cold so spent lots of time by the wood burner - reading, doing crosswords as a group activity and napping. Despite the weather a good break away from work and family responsibility. Hope you have a lovely time.

    1. Hi Penny,
We are just back in camp having had our last day fishing on the beach, we caught 13 whiting today, our best day yet. Tomorrow morning, early, we will start to pack up and be home by mid afternoon, I really don’t want to go😩 although we both agree we will never camp again at this time of year, the heat has been terrible. So meltingly hot and humid. Your holiday sounds the go, rest and recuperation 😊 thanks for commenting and have a lovely day.

  2. Oh camping again, you lucky thing!
I'm intrigued by the T-Towel with the salad in a zip lock bag, I'm assuming it's to soak up excess moisture, does that help extend the life of the salad?

    1. Hi Cheryl,
Yes indeedy 😊 the tea towel absorbs any moisture from the salad, wicking away the moisture extends the life enormously. And the clip lock container just keeps it really fresh. We ate the last of that chopped salad today in our wraps, it was still perfect. I think I just put that salad to the ultimate test, camping, on the beach, using a camp fridge, in the blistering heat! If it can remain perfect here, at home will be a sinch. Have a lovely evening.

  3. Hi Fiona,
Hope you have had a lovely week camping and have managed to have plenty of time for relaxing. Thank you for the great recipes this week. I am looking forward to making the Lemony Potato Salad and the Pumpkin Lasagna. I made your Best Beef Rissoles on Wednesday and they were a hit with my family.
The need to save money this week was highlighted when we received our huge quarterly water bill. It is so difficult to maintain our veggie garden and fruit trees (we have over 30) and reduce our water bill. The trees are still quite young so need regular watering especially during long periods of hot weather. I would appreciate any helpful hints.
    Cheers,
    Maria from Adelaide SA

    1. Hi Maria, unfortunately I am not the one to ask for gardening advice, I barely bumble along with my garden and with most everything in pots I too have a hard time keeping the water up to them😩aren’t water charges dreadfully high, so we try to be really careful with our usage too. So happy you love the recipes, when I find good ones I love to share them. Have a lovely evening.
