What we bought, spent and ate this week

Hello Dear Reader,

And welcome to the weekend, what are you doing today? Today, I have two appointments, one with the hairdresser and one with the dentist, you can guess which one I am looking forward to more. I have my very short hair cut every month and streaked every second, it is my one indulgence and I quite look forward to it each month.

We are in a health fund and as such get 2 free dental check ups, clean and scale each year, so we take full advantage of it, health care is expensive but I am too frightened to go without it. We had a very frightening health scare with hubby in 2009, we had top hospital insurance which was a godsend, however it didn't stop us from almost going broke paying for "the gap" in between what the Neurosurgeon charged and what the health fund would cover. We would have really been up the creek without the hospital cover though, he was in hospital for 3 months and it was fully covered.

This afternoon, after my morning appointments, I will be heading next door to start a plan of where to start clearing and cleaning out my late MIL's home. I am thinking of starting in the office as it is emotionally neutral and chock-a-block of bookwork, files, computers, printers, old faxes, well you get the drift and there is no need to hold on to any of the paper work as lovely hubby has all the current bookwork needed. So my handy paper shredder will be going non stop I think.

Now on with what we bought, spent and ate this week-

What we bought

Shopping from Northside Discount Fruit Barn, we picked up 2.5 kg of bacon which was $8.99 per kg, I have frozen it down into 500 gram lots.

Chicken Breasts from Marjax Meats

Shopping from Coles, the Coco Quench and Basmati Rice are probably the only items we buy in bulk

Shopping from Aldi, we bought the Kiwi fruit from Aldi this week as the fruit shop wanted $1 per Kiwi, unpackaged, so we went with the cheaper option

Bulk tea and plastic free Salami from the Sunday Markets

What we spent
Northside Discount Fruit Barn-$57.26
Marjax Meats-$15.75
Sunday Markets-$32.00

TOTAL-$193.72, well, we did by some bulk stuff this week.

Have the loveliest of days

Two Years Ago-Roast Pumpkin Hummus

  1. I was the only one home for dinner last night, Fi, so I scooped soft sweet potato out of ones I'd roasted, mixed that with some leftover steamed veg and a scoop of sour cream before putting it back into the sweet potato skins. Topped with some grated mozerella and baked again until cheese melted. Just so yum! Meg 🤗

  2. Good luck with cleaning out your MIL's house. We have done that twice now - once for my Mum and once for my Father-in-law. It will be challenging at times so your idea of a plan is a good one. I am sure you will feel a sense of accomplishment when it is done.

  3. Hi Fiona, just wondering, could you tell me what model/brand of paper shredder you own? I used to own one, admittedly it was only a cheapy, but it didn’t work very well, and eventually died. I want a paper shredder that can handle the thin cardboard that you get with cereal boxes etc, my old one didn’t cope with that, it would only do thin paper.
