What we bought, spent and ate this week

Saturday, 15 February 2020
Hello Dear Reader,

All systems are go for our camping trip up the beach, today will be busy. We need to go up to Simply Good at Morayfield to top up with nuts, rolled oats, dishwashing liquid, hand wash, chickpeas, honey, salt and pepper, then we'll drop into the Golden Circle Factory Outlet to see if there are any bargains to be had. Once we are home I will make up this rissole mix, make this salad and dressing, make another batch of panini and mix up the tuna and tartare mix for our lunches for the next couple of days.

Then the usual Saturday jobs will need to be done-
Washing
Quick vac plus lounges and door tracks
Tidy whole house
Wash the sheets and towels as they are due to be done tomorrow
Divide up and freeze the dogs mince
Steam the sweet potato to go with dogs dinners, pop in two containers and freeze one

Tonight I plan on getting pizza for dinner, the $5 pizzas are back at Dominoes and after today I don't think I will have the energy to cook!

Here is what was on our family table last week-

What we bought

Lots of goodies from Aldi

A few items from Coles-the baked beans were on special for $1, what I didn't realise is that they are a smaller can, 300 gram compared to the usual 400 gram, but there was still enough for us for dinner. We tried the "English Recipe" and it was so lovely that I took the other ones back and exchanged it for more of the English Recipe variety.

Fruit and veg from the Northside Discount Fruit Barn

What we spent
Aldi-$92.31
Coles-$12.35
Northside Discount Fruit Barn-$48.25

TOTAL-$152.91-it has been a long while since our grocery shop was over the $150 mark!

What we ate

Friday-English Recipe Baked Beans on Toast with sour cream and grated cheese

Saturday-Fish Burgers on home made Panini

Sunday-Cheesy Artichoke Pasta Bake with home made garlic bread

Monday-Pan Fried Turmeric Fish with Baked Veggies-roasted broccoli, maple roasted pumpkin and roasted potatoes

Tuesday-Mushroom Curry with steamed Basmati rice, mango chutney and yoghurt

Wednesday-Honey Prawns with steamed Basmati Rice and choy sum

Thursday-Salmon and Brie Fold Over Pies with Upmarket Mushy Peas and Maple Roasted Pumpkin

What are you doing today? And what was on your family table this week?

Have a lovely day,
🏕Fi

  1. Hi Fiona,

These were our meals this week, all homemade..

    Alfredo Pasta
    Leftovers/toasted sandwiches
Slow cooked pork shoulder with roast veggies
    Chicken Enchiladas
    Vegetarian sausage rolls
    Lasagne and salad
    Mexican rice

Our total spend this week for our family of 5 was $221.08! Finally under budget!! I aim to keep things around the $250/wk mark, but it’s over more than under lately 😩

    Have a lovely camping trip.

  2. Glad the weather's cleared and you are able to head off camping, Fi. I hope it's a lovely trip away! Today, with the finer weather, I've been out in the garden early pulling weeds and trimming things back a bit. This afternoon, I've rolled up a double batch of mince and mushroom meatballs and chopped veg for our stir fry tonight. I have celery left over so I have chopped this up and frozen it ready for Winter time stews. Happy camping! Meg:)

    1. Hi Meg,
We’ve just left for camping but before I left I pulled up some weeds out the front, the ground is still so soft from the rain isn’t? I’ll have to remember that tip for freezing celery, love no waste. Have a lovely day, Fi

  3. Goodness you've got a busy day but at least you can go on holiday and know things are neat and tidy at home. So glad the weathers better and you can go camping.
This week we ate pork chops and roasties, veg etc, slow cooked pork casserole, homemade soup, cauliflower cheese and roasted tomatoes, sausages, mash and veg and a meal at friends house ( fish).
Today I am meeting a friend at a craft exhibition in town then scurrying home before the next storm blows in for the weekend. More flooding predicted for some poor souls - this has been a horribly wet winter.
Have a good weekend all, wherever you are.
    Happy camping Fiona!
