What we bought, spent and ate this week

Hello Dear Reader,

We have had so much rain this week and the temperatures have been so wonderfully mild, it has been an absolute blessing, we haven't needed the air conditioning on or the ceiling fans either, I can't remember it being so lovely and cool like this during summer for any length of time. It is such a relief!


I took this little video yesterday morning at about 6.15am, everything has greened up after the magical rain we have had this week

I am having my hair cut and streaked today, it is my one luxury and I always feel so good after it is done. I have my hair cut every four weeks as it grows so quickly and streaked every eight weeks, my hair is naturally quite dark so lightening it makes me look and feel better. Then, this afternoon I want to go and have a look through a few Op shops we have on the Peninsula, I only have two pairs of shorts and three t-shirts at the moment, I will need a couple more of each for camping next week plus you never know what you'll find, the last time I went I scored this beautiful black and white dress for $5, I have a thing for black and white and I am always drawn to it.

Friday-Baked Beans on toast with sour cream and grated cheese 

Saturday and Sunday-Cheesy Artichoke Pasta Bake

Monday-Honey Prawns with the last of the home grown Perennial Spinach 

Tuesday-Roast Lamb Curry with steamed Basmati rice, mango pickle and greek yoghurt 

Wednesday-Prawn Stir Fry

On Thursday, we had an impromptu family dinner of Steamed Fish with Ginger and Spring Onions, I had to buy a couple of bunches of Asian greens and a knob of ginger to complete the meal. I forgot to take a photo, sorry, that usually happens when we have the gang over.

    Today I am baking, cooking and watching England play Scotland in the Six Nations Rugby on TV. Tonight we have a big storm blowing in from the Atlantic so we will fill up the log basket and hunker down with books, Jigsaw etc.

      The dress is a very simple cut but it suits my body shape and I just love black and white. I picked up several good quality t-shirts and a pair of shorts for very little outlay, love op shopping so much. Hope you fared well during the storm, we had another cracker last night with about 50ml of glorious rain. Fi

  2. Today I did some sewing and embroidery, whilst rain finally fell on us. We have missed out over the last couple of weeks even although 25 kms away our local town has had repeated falls of up to 40 MLS, whilst all we got were dust storms. We have only had 13.4 MLS today, but at least it is a start. I too am loving the cooler temperatures. Hope your camping trip is relaxing and enjoyable.

      So happy you got some rain, we had another cracker of a storm here last night, I'm not sick of it yet. Our camping trip is still going ahead but we may be rained in for most of the week, never mind, if we can set up and take down the camp in the dry we'll be okay.

  3. Hi Fiona,

    I’m a little late posting my menu, time just whizzes by!

    On Saturday night we went out to a local Chinese restaurant which was planned a while ago as a catch up with relatives. Sunday was curry chicken and rice. Monday zucchini slice and salad. Tuesday Nachos. Wednesday Fish, mashed potatoes and steamed veggies, Thursday pumpkin and chickpea curry with rice (your recipe 😀) and Friday Pizza.

    The total budget this week was $336.28. Better than last week but still higher than I’d like!

    I hope you don’t mind me posting my menu and budget every week, but it’s keeping me accountable, even if I’m not doing very well at the moment, I hope to track improvements as the weeks go by!
