Wednesday Roundup

Wednesday, 20 May 2020
Hello Dear Reader,

And welcome to half way through another week in May 2020. Last Saturday saw the relaxing of our Covid 19 lockdown laws and on Sunday I popped out to Bunnings to pick up some seeds and seedlings to start planting out our autumn, winter and spring veg and herb crops. Leading up to Bunnings there are three sets of lights and it took me forever to get through them, there was so much traffic and once there, Bunnings was jumping with people out in droves and dressed to the nines. There was a big line up waiting to get in and a security guard shouting out the reminder to stay 1.5 meters apart and only letting a few people at a time when a few customers exited. I was in and out in about 45 minutes with most of the time waiting to get in or waiting at the cash register.

I then spent the rest of Sunday afternoon planting out the seeds and seedling, giving everything a good water in and then cleaning and tidying up the yard. I was quite exhausted by Sunday evening but really happy with everything I achieved that day. Here is what else has been happening in and around our home this past week.

On My Mind-
Planning a little family get together very soon, it's been way too long since all our clan has been together in one spot.

On the Breakfast Plate-
A lovely co-worker gifted me a magnificent pineapple and we have been having it with our breakfast fruit salad and vanilla yoghurt bowls. Someone she knows owns a pineapple farm and it is just the most wonderfully sweet pineapple.

On My Reading Pile-
Not reading anything at the moment

On My TV-
Apart from the news I haven't watched anything this week

On the Menu This Week-
Fav meal this week was this prawn stir fry that LH makes nearly every week or so. We always uses the same veg combo-ginger, garlic, spring onions, red capsicum, snow peas and bean shoots-yum!

From the Camera-
A glamour shot of my repaired sewing machine

Looking Around the House-
Not in the house but outside, particularly Ninja's side of the house, it is all finished. It has been a very long time coming and I am so very happy with how it has turned out. So very neat and tidy, no more jagged rock edges, no more rogue spiky plants, it now has a lovely long cat friendly garden and more water tanks.

Housework I'm Not Looking Forward To Today or This Week-
The patio and outdoor furniture needs a good sweep and hose down, it's looking a bit grubby

What happening in a around your home this week? I'd love to know, join in by cutting, pasting and filling in the blanks and posting in the comments.

  1. Do you have the prawn dish recipe on your website? Also I saw a video of how you did your bok choy however can't remember how to find that. Would love to see that recipe in full. Kathy

    1. Hi Kathy,
Me again, the video is under the “vegetarian” and “videos” label on the blog. It is called “How I cook Asian greens” the date is the 24/05/2018, hope that helps. Fi

  2. Hello Kathy,
No, the recipe isn’t up on the blog but next time LH makes it I will do a little video. He has a really good old wok that he has had for years, it is well seasoned and he also uses a big gas burner outside next to the BBQ, those two things alone make a huge difference to the stir fry. He simply starts with the garlic, ginger and whites of the spring onions and stir fry’s them till they’re aromatic, he then adds the shelled and deveined prawns and again stir fry’s them for a minute or two, next are the capsicum and snow peas followed by a splash of sesame oil, light soy and sriracha for a bit of a kick. Finally he rolls the bean sprouts through the stir fry and then spoons the finished stir fry onto the serving platter, the greens of the spring onions are then sprinkled over the top. I always say to him it smells like a Chinese restaurant 😍 hope that helps, have a wonderful day, Fi
